When you walk into the museum, the first thing you see is the bronze statue of Tan Citong.

One of the displays tells us that the museum was built on the old site of the Liuyang Calculus Academy that Tan Citong founded. It makes us realize that Tan Citong gave up his life pushing for the kind of modern, science-based education we have right now.
